How to convert millimeters to meters

Any physical quantity can be written as:

Q = nu , where n= numerical value and u = unit used

We know that:

1 mm = 0.001 m

1 m = 1000 mm

So, you can easily convert your quantity in mm to meters by simply multiply it by 0.001

Hence, general formula to convert mm to meters:

p(m) = 0.001 × p(mm), where p is the numerical value

For example:

Convert 15 mm to meters

15 mm = 15 × 0.001 m = 0.015 m

About Millimetre (mm)

Name of unit: Millimetre

In SI units, the fundamental unit of length is the metre and 'milli' is the latin word refers to the prefix of the metre which is equal to one thousandth i.e 0.001 ( 1 mm = 1/1000m ). Thus we can say that millimetre is one thousandth of a metre.

Uses of mm: Millimetre is the small unit of length. So , it is used to measure the length of very tiny objects like nib of a pen, a pencil or a needle , thickness of sheet or cloth etc . Miillimetre is also used various fields like physics, chemistry , medicines, mathematics etc for small measurements.

About Metre (m)

Name of unit: Metre

Abbreviation: m

Unit system: SI

Definition: The Metre is the metric unit of length , one of the seven fundamental units in the International system of units (SI). Metre is the path length traveled by light through a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second. In the British Imperial (BI) and US Customary (USC) systems of measurements, one meter refers to 1.094 yards or 39.37 inches, while in the metric system, one meter is equal to 100 centimeters.

Uses of Metre: Metre is used in everyday life for measuring the length or height of various objects and distances between two objects. For example, a meter rod is used by clothiers to measure the length of a cloth piece. It is also used by professionals in fields like science, mathematics, architecture and construction for accurate measurements.
